Resolve to Evolve

On January 4, I’m a little late getting to my New Year’s resolutions. I landed in Venice a couple weeks ago and it’s been non-stop party-going, funeral-attending, Christmas TweetUplifting and New Year Day party-hosting.

My new year officially begins tomorrow, Monday, the 5th, when I’ll be back into yet another “Feel Good Fast” program for 21 days – to help the guinea pig get back on track as well as to de-tox my own body after two weeks of wine and martinis, coffee, chocolate, sugar, restaurant food and late nights. You probably feel the need to clean up a little too, no? Yes? Then follow along for “Feel Good Fast ~ the 3rd edition”!

Start on Tuesday or Wednesday and you’ll have the guide right here in Feel Good Food, along with shopping plans, menus and easy clean green healing recipes! This time around we’ll be accompanying the program with some short vids. By January’s end, you’ll be feeling great again and ready to fight back those February blues when they come a hauntin’…

A new year begins…

It’s an interesting time of transition, the last few days of a year running into the first few days of the next. What rituals do you perform to mark the transition? Do you party like it’s 1999 and resolve the next day to lose weight, make more money and spend quality time with your family? Or do you retreat into solitude to take stock of your accomplishments and goals? How meaningful is this time of year to you?

January, for me, is a month of introspection. My birthday comes later in the month, so I get a double-whammy dose of inevitable self-examination every year at this time. It’s not always pretty, sometimes painful, but I’ve resolved to evolve…

I took a couple hours alone the other day down by the ocean absorbing the cool foggy December 31st air, contemplating the year behind and visioning the year ahead. Sitting at the water’s edge, I watched as the line on the sand inched forward with the momentum of the incoming tide.

Dozens of seagulls and sandpipers waited patiently on rocks, pieces of wood and dry sand for the surge, then, the moment the water retreated, the gulls would swoop in and the pipers would scurry in to dine on the goodies left behind by the ocean. I was mesmerized by the rhythm of nature and the efficiency with which the birds caught their dinners. Wave after wave brought the same effortless, precise, elegant performance.

I wondered if humans could evolve to be that intuitive; and I resolved to try.

What if we could become like these simple seagulls and sandpipers, bringing that same grace and ease to our work…

What if, like the gulls and pipers, we were able to trust that with each retreating wave, all we need will be there…

What if all the effort we need to make is in paying attention, waiting patiently, then acting with intent when the wave hits the beach…

Happy New Year! Let’s resolve to evolve~ and ease into 09 with confidence, precision and grace.

  1. Reminds me of the Rumi poem spindrift…the process you describe perfectly provides an image for the posture I try to take with the rhythm of the dreams, though sometimes less successful than others. Its the ability to relax into it which is always needed when the system gets cramped up.

    Happy New Years…

The Light of the World has come — and it’s our job to spread the Word! Evolve — yes, for sure…break out of the mould, step out of the box, reach out, stretch up, aim higher, do something you’ve never done before, greet someone you’ve never spoken to before. Get a balance between looking inward and gazing beyond…think about others, but don’t forget about yourself. Think healthy, and have a happy new year!
