Innovate or Die – Aquaduct: Mobile Filtration Vehicle
This trike is groovin’ with the woowoo! The Aquaduct, designed by a group of 5 Bay Area designers from IDEO, a global design and innovation firm, is the winning invention from the Innovate or Die contest – a concept vehicle made to address the problems of water transport, storage and filtration in the developing world.
It saves women in rural areas from having to walk long distances and haul heavy buckets of (unfiltered) water home, freeing up their time and energy for family, education or work. Once the large holding tank is filled, a pump attached to the pedal crank draws water from the tank through a carbon filter to a smaller clean water tank that’s detachable for home storage.
Here’s to the Power of the Pedal! Let’s hope these guys are able to reproduce this prototype at an affordable price, making it a real solution for developing world families.
