Worldfest 09!

mgvegnewsLast year I slung beer and had a blast. This year I hung with Stacy at VegNews handing out free copies of this month’s fab issue to all the peeps who came by our booth. Worldfest rocks! Check the vids below.

Worldfest is Los Angeles’ Green, Compassionate Living, Music Festival filled with entertainment, education and enlightenment for the whole family. The food all over the park all day long…entirely plant-based.

It’s cosmically insane to be surrounded by so many animal-loving, health-loving, environment-loving peeps – an incredible example of the famous Gandhi quote rocked en masse – “Be the change you want to see in the world.”  (more…)

Green Cities~Portland, OR

portlandOf all “green cities” on my research list, Portland is the reigning green media darling for the past several years. Number 1 on SustainLane’s 2006, 2007 and 2008 US City Rankings for sustainability, The City of Roses comes out smelling like them, scoring good to great in almost every category analyzed by the study.

“We talked to a lot of people in the street,” says Warren Karlenzig, author of the study. “Portlanders really identify with having a high quality of life. Everyone you talk to has a definition of what sustainability means. You don’t find that in other cities.” (more…)

Feel Good Fast #4 Day 7

water_lemon_05End of week 1 and you must be feeling pretty clean, green and lean. You must be sleeping better, and have more energy during the day. You must have lost a pound or two, or at least feel your jeans fitting better. And by now, you’re in a kitchen groove with grains and greens, market veggies, beans, herbs and fresh fruit.

Don’t forget your lemon water daily. Drinking lemon water at this time of year really aids in cleansing. It’s a liver stimulant, it helps build up a healthy system, helps nourish the brain and nerve cells, and facilitates digestion. Just this one aspect of Feel Good Fast, Spring Edition, is a powerful habit to adopt. If you’re up to it, do a day or two of just lemon water. You’ll feel amazing. (more…)

Fear of Flying?

mgtrapezeThe website header for Trapeze School New York (in Los Angeles) taunts, “Forget fear. Worry about the addiction.”

Yes! It’s scary as hell, but you’re not gonna die and you may just gain some tools for living – team building, conquering fear, release, trust, ease, grace, humility, self-empowerment and faith in your own abilities.

If I knew about Cirque du Soleil as a 3-year-old, if I knew “circus performer” was a job, I’d have run away at six or eight and joined. So last week, when I was invited to join the “Amazing Flying Vegans” for a morning, I leapt at the opportunity. (It’s easy to say yes when you’re not under the net looking up, way up the ladder to the platform.) (more…)

Feel Good Formulas

formula2Feel Good Guru had the opportunity to visit a new neighbor, Dr. Stuart Garber, who recently moved in around the corner in Venice to the sweetest office in Gingerbread Court with awe-inspiring views and daily sunsets over the sparkling Pacific. Watch the short vid below to meet up with him and catch his view!

Dr. Garber received America’s first PhD in homeopathy, and has been practicing holistic medicine for 30 years. He developed Dr. Garber’s Natural Solutions in response to a friend who had gone off her thyroid medication and asked him for help. Within a short time on his formula, her thyroid was back in balance, and Dr. Garber had a line of condition-specific biotherapy solutions in the works. I have friends who take his “Sleep” formula for restless sleeps and insomnia – it seems to work like a dream. (more…)

Flushing Out the Old…

toilet-doc…And Flushing in the New!

Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak of India creates a new social order: In a surprising way he flushes out the old…and flushes in the new~

by Feel Good Yoga Guru Helen Duggan

Several years ago, one of my yoga student teachers asked me how could the culture that delivered the profoundly heart-opening, soul-elevating discipline of yoga also hold to the ugly tradition of prejudice, discrimination and the caste system; the Untouchable class still exists today. (more…)

Green Cities~Curitiba, Brazil

rua-flores-turismo-curitibaPerhaps the world’s most advanced practitioner of green city design, architect and former mayor of Curitiba, Jaime Lerner, transformed his city in southern Brazil over three decades into what is now hailed by many as “the greenest city in the world.”

With the population exploding and pollution on the rise, Lerner began in the early 1970’s by redesigning Curitiba for people rather than for cars. He built beautiful parks and dug lakes to ease flooding. He risked everything by closing the main street off to traffic, turning it into a pedestrian-only plaza; overnight, shopkeepers who had fought him saw that the greenery and walkways would encourage more leisurely gathering – and more shopping. Vegan Kitty? Huh?

vegan kittyFeel Good Guru was at the Toronto Green Living Expo on Sunday discovering a whole lot of great green innovations. (vid coming soon!)

Of all the fab green building ideas, green food, green body products and green seminars, I left with only two green things in my hands: a tub of my favorite Sigrid Naturals Carrots & Roses face cream, and a sample bag of vegan (!) cat food by Ami Pet Products in Italy.

I have friends who raise their dogs as vegans, healthy as can be, but as far as I know, none of my animal-loving pals have vegan cats. Willow Green Eyes Yoga Cat loves her Wellness brand Herring and Chicken like it’s crack. So I took the sample, hoping she’d dig it, but assuming she’d poo-poo as she does anything not “Wellness”.
